Woodsy's Special Programs are designed to expand and enhance the educational and performing opportunities for musicians of various ages and musical interests. Many of our programs run on a seasonal basis as 6 week sessions generally meeting once a week. Others only meet in the Summer, and some are conducted year round. We constantly strive to add new and fun offerings and to improve our existing ones. We send out mailings four times a year to our past participants and anyone desiring to be on our mailing lists. Applications and additional information are available at the Front Desk at Woodsy's and online as new seasons approach.

The Rock School program gives intermediate and advanced level guitarists, drummers, vocalists, and keyboard players the opportunity to be in a Rock Band. We take interested students and create groups with typical rock band instrumentation (generally 2 guitars, one bass guitar, a vocalist, drums, and possibly keyboards). These groups will work together as a band once a week for six weeks with our professional “coaches”. Our coaches will show the members the procedures and skills required to put together a successful rock or jazz group. Those people returning from previous Rock School sessions will go to an advanced level. The overall goal of the program will be to compose, develop, or learn a variety of songs and then do a public performance.
We will advise our participants what day and time their group will meet the week before we start. The enrollment fee for the entire program is $120.00. Checks must accompany the enrollment form. We will make every attempt to accommodate everyone interested on a “first come – first serve” basis according to the registration date return. Anyone who we are unable to schedule will receive a full refund.

Rock School 101 is just like our traditional Rock School but for younger musicians. This program is designed for those students who began studying their instrument at a younger age and have achieved the playing proficiency required to begin a rock band experience. Recommended guidelines for minimum playing skills are provided on the back of the application. This is a great way for younger musicians to begin their initial group experience.
Age Group: 9-13
Sessions: 1 ½ hours once a week for six weeks. Days determined by availability on enrollment form.

If you are an adult musician interested in getting together with other adult musicians to do some playing in a guitar band just for fun, our “WEEKEND WARRIOR” program can provide you with that opportunity. Based on a successful national program created by NAMM (National Assn. of Music Merchants), the “Weekend Warrior” program gives adult players the opportunity to get together once a week, for six weeks, with an experienced “coach” to do what you enjoy most…..play in a band.
And, at the end of the session, we will even get you a gig so you can share your talents with your friends live at the Kent Stage or at a local club. Thanks to this NAMM program there are hundreds of adult musicians across the country reliving their youth, or achieving their aspirations by playing in real rock bands. We have the rehearsal space, the equipment, and the advice of a great player at your disposal. All you need to do is find a time that works for you and sign up!
The Folk Warriors Program is exactly the same as the Weekend Warriors Program except that it uses acoustic instruments and is based around the folk and americana genres of music.
Age Group: Adults
Sessions: 2 hours once a week for six weeks. Days as determined.

Groups Unlimited is an opportunity to create new and interesting performing groups of various styles and instrumentation. Sort of “ANYTHING GOES”. These groups could be: Folk – Jazz – Vocal – Strings – all Girl groups - keyboard ensembles – guitar ensembles - vocal with accompanying instruments, avant garde - original composition groups – fusion – groups with horns, etc. We have an extremely talented and diverse staff of teacher with the education and experience to guide you. So, these groups may even involve your teacher or coach as a performing member of the group. Talk to them. Whatever you put together we will work with it and make it cool. Have Fun.

Groups Unlimited PLUS
Our Performance Plus Programs provides the opportunity for established groups to rehearse on an continuous basis and do more performing throughout the year.
Initial Start dates for all “Plus” groups will be the week of Jan. 29 – Feb. 4th. Additional start dates throughout the year.
“Plus” groups will rehearse 1 ½ hrs per week. Days will be determined by the availability of the members.
“Plus” groups will have performance opportunities every other month throughout the year including the Kent Stage and other area venues and clubs to be announced.
First performance will be with the traditional Winter Rock School Groups on March 11th at the Kent Stage.
New enrollment, group revisions and other adjustments will only be conducted the week following a performance.
“Plus” fee will Be $15.00 per week ($60.00 per month maximum ) per person. No additional charges for performances. Billing will be prorated to accommodate Concert Dates, Start Dates, and any master schedule adjustments such as Spring and Holiday Breaks. Monthly payments will be through Pre-authorized Credit Card Payments only. No refunds or credits will be issued for absences or member termination. |
